MJ: All the pieces are inspired by music. We really aspire to make jewelry that’s as timeless as music is. Music lasts forever.
CG: We will always draw major inspiration from music. Traveling has also proven to be a main source of inspiration. The new collection has a lot of pieces that were thought of while attending Coachella last year as well as our travels to Dubai and Monaco. When designing I like to take a cue from my personal style and design pieces that are both "unexpected " and even somewhat "atypical."
CG: We have joked about sending our friend a “Thank You “ card for introducing us, seriously can’t imagine if I had stayed home that night. That would have been tragic!
HOW DO YOUR ROLES/STRENGTHS WORK TOGETHER?
MJ: Chantel takes on a more creative role. I handle a lot more of the business side of things. We both help each other though, so nothing is mutually exclusive.
CG: We balance each other out perfectly. MJ keeps us on task to make deadlines. I just love her type “A” characteristics…I’m more of a type “C” haha
MJ: I try to design so that a piece could be worn versatility, since I have a versatile sense of fashion. Maybe one day you want to pair something with a tee shirt and jeans and the next a dress. Something like our chic bodychains are great for this, you can dress them up or down.
CG: I think it would be dreadfully hard to design jewelry that wasn't particularly " our style." That would require so much more thought and planning and second maybe third guessing oneself! I'm just thankful that's not the case; what we get to do is so much more fun! I design pieces I'd love to wear myself.
Whats the best part of your job?
CG: It’s the best of both worlds for me, not only do I get to work with my best friend whom I have amazing design chemistry with, but I also get to feed my insatiable need to create.
PICK ONE: FASHION OR MUSIC?
MJ: Oh that one’s too hard! I just couldn’t. There’s no line in between the two for me. Our fashion is inspired by and was born through music. They couldn’t exist without each other at Electric Picks.
CG: That’s like asking me to pick a favorite child! Well if I had to pick it would probably be music because a world without music sounds like the saddest story in the world.
