burning man, carnival of mirrors, has taken fashion up a notch
The Burning Man Festival is one of the biggest modern costume shows for adults outside Halloween. This five-mile long festival takes place in the desert far from traditional civilization. The people who make up Black Rock City are not simply “attendees,” but rather active participants in every sense of the word: they create the city, the interaction, the art, the performance and ultimately the experience that is Burning Man.This year’s theme, Carnival of Mirrors, has many festival goers dressed in masks and whimsical attire. Even with talk of restrictions on fashion, men and women can still create there own unique costume without leaving a trace behind. The Rules for costumes at the Burning Man Festival, that began on Sunday August 30 in Black Rock City, Nevada include:
Many attendees have been taking to social media such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram to proudly display their “Burner” fashion. From bespectacled pooches to beauties in hot pink fishnet stockings and high-waisted vintage bathing suits, Burning Man fashion is the apex for creativity and imagination posed against a dusty desert landscape.
"Let your skin breathe—and be comfortable in it. No one really cares what you look like at Burning Man: You could literally be wearing one pastie—anywhere—and that would be okay. So dress for you, and try to break out of your comfort zone. Think about that knit bikini with matching knit sandals that you were too scared to wear in the Hamptons: Hell, accessorize it with a mask! Haven’t found an occasion to wear that bodysuit? Go bare on the bottom and slap on some sky-high heels. Save the covering up for the flight back home. Until then, burn on, you crazy diamond." - Vogue
