Job Title: Owner LaStrada Jewelry Showroom
How did you get started in the industry?
I started working at a multi-line showroom in the garment district. I was representing 17 clothing lines and covering the northeast territory. Two years into it, I decided I had the knowledge I needed to go off on my own.
Do you have any tips when strategically placing your jewelry lines?
When placing my lines in stores, I always take into account the price point the store can sell, the type of clientele they have, and the genre of the retailer.
How do you go about choosing which brands to place in your showroom?
It takes a lot to bring in a new line. It must complement what I already have, but it can’t compete with my other lines. I have to see the potential in a new line. I’ll also usually get some feedback from a few buyer friends I trust to see if they see it’s potential as well.
Who's a girl boss that you admire and why?
Sophia Amoroso, she’s the epitome of hard work pays off. Her store and her Book ‘Girl Boss’ are so inspiring for small businesses in fashion. She really started at the bottom with nothing and has built a multi-million dollar business.
What's your go to outfit when you want to look like a boss?
My go to is usually denim on denim or leather pants and a t-shirt (graphic or white). And of course, accessories are everything!
What do you love about your job?
I love being my own boss and making my own schedule, and working in a field you admire so much is the best thing. I’ve never loved a job more! I feel like I was born to do what I’m doing.
Can you give any advice or tips to individuals who are trying to enter your field?
Work hard! You always have to start at the bottom, just do it, we all started there!
